Sound System Club is an amalgamation of years of working within the Reggae Music Industry.
The first venture embarked upon in the music business was a joining a sound system while in
school. During school came organising, managing and promoting class parties which turned
out to be too big for the school premises and had to be held in different venues in Kingston
Jamaica.
After leaving school the musical journey continued into larger and more powerful reggae
sound systems with a lot of emphasis on equipment.
The journey continued into artiste management and record production, then record sales on
an international scale, record company management and show and dance promotions.
After over 30 years in the business, I worked for King Tubby where I had to call on all these experiences and articulated these experiences working around the world pushing the envelope, taking reggae music to new territories.
Our first venture is the Tribute to King Tubby Virtual event.
Tubby’s started his career in the late 1950’s building amplifiers for several of Jamaica’s early
sound systems, then worked as an engineer with producer Duke Reid. In the 1970’s, he shot
to national prominence for his dub versions of popular songs and working with progressive
producers like Bunny Lee, Glen Brown, Augustus Pablo, and Michael “Mikey Dread”
Campbell.
Sound System Club will team up with The Firehouse Crew to make the show annual. We will also lobby the Jamaican government to give King Tubby’s a national honour for his outstanding contribution to Reggae music.
Sound System Club will also expand its activities within the coming months stay tuned!!!
