It was one of the most important assassination attempts in history. Exactly 40 years ago, Pope John Paul II was shot by a nationalist militant known as “The Turkish Wolf”. The trial lasted for long years and the militant hid in a shroud of mystery. No one was able to find out why, for whom and for what reason he had staged the failed attempt.

On the 40th anniversary of the assassination attempt, we shed light on history with the help of witnesses in Italy and newly acquired information. Who were those who tried to make him escape from prison in Turkey twice? Had Agca acted alone? What did those closest to the Pope see that day? Why did Agca claim to be the Messiah, who was he protecting? Who was the old Nazi militant who had armed him? Who are the hidden forces behind Agca?
